Mark R Kanner, Ph.D., Lead Data Scientist at Aetna Data Science Organization. Mark is a lead data scientist on the fraud detection team at Aetna and is responsible for both research and application of anomaly detection techniques for the automated identification of healthcare provider fraud. Previously Mark worked on the population health management team at Aetna, building machine learning models to determine which customers to reach out to for Care Management programs. Mark has a PhD in Physics from City College of New York.

Sandy Balkin, Ph.D. is Head, Integrated Insights & Platforms with Sanofi.  He is responsible for improving research and business performance by transforming world wide capabilities, elevating quality of insights, and embedding advanced business analytics.  In this role, he is creating and leading a worldwide community to drive capabilities across the enterprise to enable better strategic and operational decisions in the context of a rapidly evolving marketplace and evolving customer needs.

Prior to joining Sanofi, Sandy built best-in-class analytics functions at two consultancies as Vice President of Analytics and Commercial Effectiveness with Aptus Health and as Senior Principal with Precision for Value.  Prior to that, Sandy held a number of roles of increasing responsibility at Boehringer-Ingelheim where he was Executive Director, Forecasting and Business Analytics and at Pfizer as Director/Team Leader of Predictive Modeling, building and leading teams responsible for providing forecasting and strategic support to key corporate functions including BD&L, marketing, finance, market research, new product planning and sales.

Sara Aby is Senior Data Scientist with Crossix. She is an expert in predictive modeling, risk management, and big data analytics with proven ability to model and analyze complicated systems to discover insight about business process and improve data driven business decision making. Dr. Abyhas more than 15 years of combined experiences in various fields of computational, advanced data analytics, and data science methodologies. She has applied predictive modeling techniques to model data in various fields such as healthcare, insurance, fraud, finance, marketing, banking, customer service, sensors, digital devices, and also biological data. Beside her vast industry experiences, being a university professor for five years equipped her with solid theoretical knowledge in machine learning, programming, algorithm design, predictive modeling, data processing, and mathematics.

She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with focus on data processing. Sara also earned a master’s degree in Mechatronic(AI) Engineering and bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. Dr. Aby is a former National Science Foundation (NSF) fellow for big data analytic program (Open Science Data Cloud PIRE). She has authored a book on predictive modeling field published by CRC Press and also she authored and co-authored many academic conference and journal papers. Bio:

Sheetal Sood is the Senior Executive Compliance Officer and Board appointed Corporate Records Management Officer for NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public health system in the country.

In her role, Sheetal currently provides senior executive compliance oversight of the System’s HIPAA Privacy/Security. She is responsible for information governance, risk and compliance activities related to HIPAA privacy and data security, including conducting annual risk assessments; reviewing and responding to potential compliance issues and complaints; conducting investigations; performing focused reviews; ensuring completion of compliance training for affected employees; and reporting HIPAA compliance activities to Senior Leadership.

Prior to joining NYC Health + Hospitals, Sheetal served as the Chief Privacy Officer and Director of IT Audits for the New York City Housing Authority where she was responsible for the setting the information privacy strategy including confidentiality of records, and leading the organization-wide data loss protection program. Additionally, she was the point person for all information technology audits for the organization.

In the past, she has worked in various industries including technology start-ups and Bear Stearns in Information Security roles in senior leadership capacities. She has also worked with other NYC agencies such as the NYC Department of Transportation and the NYC Office of Emergency Management in senior IT operational roles.

As an information governance executive for more than twenty years, Ms. Sood has extensive experience in in information security, audit and investigation of physical and information systems and networks, business continuity, security awareness education, IT operations, risk management and data protection and privacy.

Bio:

Hod Lipson is a professor of Engineering and Data Science at Columbia University in New York, and a co-author of the award-winning book “Fabricated: The New World of 3D printing” and “Driverless: Intelligent cars and the road ahead”. His work on self-aware and self-replicating robots challenges conventional views of robotics, and has enjoyed widespread media coverage. Hod has co-authored over 300 publications that received over 14,000 citations to date. He has co-founded four companies and is a frequent keynote speaker both in industry and academic events. Hod directs the Creative Machines Lab, which pioneers new ways to make machines that create, and machines that are creative.

At Oscar Insurance, Melanie leads the search engineering team and has been working on AI projects in: entity linking for matching noisy claims data to our well-curated source of truth provider data; learning to rank for optimizing search relevance; and most recently, named entity recognition and intent classification to bring structure to our natural language user queries and customer service chat messages. Before Oscar, she completed a PhD in computer science, specializing in performance measurement and optimization problems at the intersection of hardware and software. Associate Chief Transformation Officer, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital

Bio:

Dr. David Tsay M.D. Ph.D. is the Associate Chief Transformation Officer at the NewYork-Presbyterian Innovation Center, where he leads major innovation and transformation initiatives for the NYP enterprise. At the NYP Transformation Center, our mission is to transform the patient experience, hospital operations, and clinical outcomes for the NYP enterprise through healthcare process and technology innovation. In this role, Dr. Tsay leads strategic cross-departmental implementation efforts in artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, digital automation, and process redesign, supporting major NYP initiatives in digital health, inpatient hospital operations, clinical care delivery, supply chain logistics, finance revenue cycle, and other enterprise efforts.  He is responsible for executive oversight of NYP’s artificial intelligence programs, operational data science team, and robotic process automation (RPA) center of excellence. In addition he supports NYP Ventures, NewYork-Presbyterian’s strategic investment fund, in its due diligence of investment and technology evaluation. Prior to this role, he was the Associate Chief Innovation Officer where he was a founding team member for NYP OnDemand, NewYork-Presbyterian’s comprehensive suite of digital telehealth services.

Dr. Tsay is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, where he has been for the past decade. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and specializes in Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Dr. Tsay received his B.A. in Physics and Computer Science from Columbia University College, and completed his M.D. Ph.D. doctorate degrees from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowships in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology at Columbia NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

ROBBIE FREEMAN

Bio:

Robbie Freeman is the Senior Director of Clinical Operations at Mount Sinai. In his current role, Robbie is responsible for clinical departments and programs. He oversees the development and deployment of predictive models aimed at reducing patient harm and increasing operational efficiencies.  Over the past 8 years, Robbie has held several leadership roles within the Mount Sinai Health System.  He is the recipient of the NY Times Tribute to Nurses award for Technological Innovations and is a 2018 Aspen Institute Ideas Festival Scholar.

Robbie is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Analytics from the NYU Stern School of Business. Peter M. Fleischut, MD, is Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer for NewYork-Presbyterian. In this role, he leads NYP’s Epic enterprise implementation and transformation, artificial intelligence initiatives, and pharmacy. Dr. Fleischut is also responsible for the development of the NYP OnDemand suite of digital health services and the implementation of clinical operations for the new David H. Koch Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. A graduate of Jefferson Medical College and the Wharton Program for Working Professionals at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Fleischut joined NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell in 2006 and has held the roles of Medical Director of the Operating Rooms, Deputy Quality Patient Safety Officer, Founding Director of the Center for Perioperative Outcomes, Vice Chairman, Chief Medical Information Officer, Chief Innovation Officer and Chief Medical Operating Officer. Chris leads the Enterprise Data Science team within Knowledge Solutions, reporting directly to ESI’s Chief Data Officer (CDO). His team administers a best-in-class data science practice to ensure Express Scripts’ nearly 22 petabyte healthcare data ecosystem is operationalized with the most effective data science methods and technologies. Bio:

Michelle Stansbury has been with Houston Methodist since July 1993.  Her current position is Vice President of Corporate Business / Revenue Cycle Systems and Innovations in the Information Technology Division.   During her 25 years at Methodist, she has had many accomplishments. In 2016, Houston Methodist deployed Epic to its main academic medical center and all of its physician practices.

Houston Methodist received the highest adoption score of Epic functionality of any new Epic client and the hospital saw higher operating activity and greater revenue after the deployment of Epic.   Her strength is in developing strategy and leading teams to drive those strategic initiatives.

Before joining Houston Methodist, Michelle held leadership roles at Compaq Computer Corporation and Amoco Oil.  Her most recent passion is in Digital Health Innovation and has been part of the team leading innovation initiatives at Houston Methodist.   

Michelle earned her Bachelor degree in Business Administration from Phoenix    University. ERIC OERMANN
Director of AI Research Group, Mount Sinai

Bio:

Eric Karl Oermann, M.D. is an Instructor of Neurological Surgery in the Mount Sinai Health System and the Director of AISINAI, Mount Sinai’s artificial intelligence research group. He studied mathematics at Georgetown University with a focus on differential geometry. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Oermann spent six months with the President’s Council on Bioethics studying human dignity under the mentorship of physician-philosopher Edmund Pellegrino. Dr. Oermann has won numerous awards for his scholarship including fellowships from the American Brain Tumor Association and Doris Duke Charitable Research Foundation where he was first exposed to neural networks and deep learning. He has published over sixty manuscripts spanning basic research on machine learning, tumor genetics, and the philosophy of medicine. As a PGY-2, Dr. Oermann was selected as one of Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 for his work in using machine learning to develop prognostic models for cancer patients. Dr. Oermann completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Google (Google Health / Verily Life Sciences). He is interested in weakly supervised learning, reinforcement learning with imperfect information, and in building artificial neural networks that more accurately model biological neural networks. As a neurosurgeon, he is also interested in the application of deep learning to solve a wide range of problems in the medical sciences and improving clinical care.

Bio:

Tawnya Infantino focuses on the consumer and patient experience as Senior Director over Digital Products for the Office of Digital within Dignity Health, which is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States.  As a critical founding member of the start-up team that created the Office of Digital, Ms. Infantino helped grow it into a department recognized for award-winning web and mobile digital solutions that have increased conversion rates of consumers to patients and increased patient satisfaction, and help reduce the cost of care by matching patients with the right level of care.

Len Usvyat is a Vice President of Integrated Care Analytics with Fresenius Medical Care North America Medical Office. Bio:

Christopher Steel is Senior Director of AI and Machine Learning at IQVIA. In this role, he leads a virtual team of global business leaders responsible for IQVIA’s artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives. Mr. Steel is also responsible for the development of strategic business initiatives aimed at embedding machine learning into all of IQVIA products and offerings. Mr. Steel is a graduate of Dickinson College with a degree in Physics and has completed the Executive Data Science Capstone in Machine Learning from the Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of Core Security Patterns, 2005 and was the chief architect of Pay.gov, the U.S. Treasury’s collections and billing portal. Prior to joining IQVIA, Mr. Steel was the Chief Architect at Software AG where he regularly spoke at conferences and sat on panels discussing the current and future state of AI and ML. He is currently leading IQVIA’s synthetic data efforts and recently hosted a company-wide Hackathon for using machine learning in InSilico Trials.

Mike Berger is Vice President, Pop Health Informatics & Data Science – delivering on the promise to transform Mount Sinai Health System into the premier population health management system in the New York metro area.  His role includes developing and implementing data-driven clinical and actuarial decision support through the use of advanced analytics, machine learning and timely operational BI.

Mike was recently named a 2018 Top 50 Data and Analytics Professional in the US and Canada by Corinium Intelligence.  He has over twenty years of experience across a combination of large Academic Medical Centers and payer organizations as well as entrepreneurial startups and management consulting.  Mike is the co-chair for the HIMSS Clinical & Business Intelligence community with 7k professional members, hosting a webinar series for analytics thought leaders.

Originally from Huntington Beach, CA, Mike has an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree from USC, a healthcare project management certification from Harvard’s Graduate School of Public Health and recently got his master’s from NYU Stern.

Esteban serves as the Global Principal for Enterprise Imaging at Pure Storage, where he is responsible for Pure’s solutions, strategy, market development and thought leadership in that area of Healthcare. Esteban has almost 20 years of experience in the storage industry, and over 13 years of experience working in the healthcare technology sector. He held several roles at FUJIFILM Medical Systems, Sandial Systems, Platypus Technology, and other storage companies.

Prior to joining Pure, Esteban was the National Director of Enterprise Architecture at FUJIFILM Medical Systems, a global leader in Enterprise Imaging (PACS, VNA, RIS, and 3D), where he was responsible for the complete technology infrastructure stack used to deploy those solutions. In that role he partnered with the most dynamic hardware and software vendors to offer fast and resilient architectures to a wide range of customers globally, ranging from small critical-access facilities and large IDNs to national healthcare authorities.

Esteban has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Bard College, and a Master of Arts in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis.

Vish is responsible for building out an Enterprise Architecture program. His portfolio of initiatives, includes direct management a $40 million+ budget to implement interoperability (internal HIE) and application development for transition to accountable care organization (ACO) and other alternate payment methods (bundled payment, insurance company and shared risk programs). It also includes building out the foundational elements of an Enterprise Data Warehouse such as Master Data Management, integrated clinical, financial and claims data model and big data analytics. Previously Vish was VP, Product Management at Eclipsys (now Allscripts) and Co-Founder of award winning healthcare IT startup Dimagi Inc.

He is a physician by training and holds a master in medical informatics degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

RAJEEV RONANKI

Bio:

Rajeev serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Anthem. He brings more than 16 years of leadership experience in healthcare and technology. At Anthem, Rajeev oversees the vision, strategy, and execution of Anthem’s digital, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and exponential technology portfolios to move Anthem to be an AI-first enterprise. In addition, he oversees innovation and modernization, and with his team, drives enterprise data strategies.

Prior to joining Anthem, Rajeev started and led Deloitte’s Life Sciences and Healthcare Advanced Analytics, AI and Innovation practice. He was instrumental in shaping Deloitte’s blockchain and cryptocurrency solutions and authored pieces on various exponential technology topics. Rajeev also led Deloitte’s partnership with Singularity University and start-ups and initiatives like doc.AI, OpenAI and MIT Media Lab’s MedRec. Rajeev obtained a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Osmania University in India and a Master’s degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bio:

Sanji is a Vice President at OptumLabs, where he leads The Center for Applied Data Science (CADS).  CADS focuses on the application of new data science methods to solve complex health care challenges by applying breakthrough innovations in artificial intelligence and machine learning to create software product concepts.

Sanji joined OptumLabs in 2014 from Nokia, where he was the Head of Data Science for Nokia’s Cloud Computing Group and HERE, Nokia’s navigation services division. Sanji spent 9 years at Nokia in a variety of roles with Nokia’s Multimedia Division, Nokia Research and Nokia Ventures.

Prior to Nokia, Sanji was a co-founder and VP of Engineering of a venture-backed mobile software company, Vettro.  Sanji began his career in management consulting.

Sanji is a graduate of Trinity College with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He lives in the Boston area with his wife and three boys.  In his free time, Sanji enjoys coaching his sons in basketball and baseball.

Bio:

Michael is a Director of Strategy in Pfizer’s World Wide R&D organization.  His group’s mission is to advance strategy and innovation in pharmaceutical development across all therapeutic areas.  His current focus is expanding the role of Artificial Intelligence in drug discovery to increase productivity and identify new therapies to help patients.

Prior to Pfizer, Michael was a Strategy Consultant at Strategy& (a PWC company) and PA Consulting.  He was also VP of technology at Phosplatin Therapeutics, a NYC biotech startup, and Director of BD and Commercial Operations at Forma Therapeutics (formerly CombinatoRx Singapore).

Michael lives in Brooklyn, and in his spare time enjoys helping entrepreneurs get their ideas to market; with several successful launches, from KickStarter to biotech IPOs. His own inventions include a kitchen gadget for SkyMall, a dual language eReader platform, and several medical diagnostics and products.

He has an MBA from Columbia Business School, and MS in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University, and a BA in Biology from University of Michigan.

Isabelle Lousada has been the driving force behind ARC, building successful collaborations and programs across the sectors to advance the science and understanding of the amyloidosis diseases.

Isabelle was diagnosed with AL amyloidosis, and was one of the first patients to successfully undergo a stem cell transplant. For the past twenty years she has been committed to empowering other patients while serving on several boards and committees, speaking at leadership meetings and key events to encourage research, increase access, and support the critical and unmet needs of amyloidosis patients.

Bio:

Jodie Gillon most recently served as the Head of Patient Advocacy and Professional Affairs with Achillion. As the sole FTE in Medical Affairs, Jodie was primarily responsible for Policy, Alliances, Patient Engagement, Medical Information, Medical Communications, Field Medical, and management of Meetings and HCP engagements.  Previously she served as the Head of the Chief Medical Office (CMO) of AstraZeneca.  As Head of the CMO, Jodie managed Patient Engagement, Compassionate Use, Trial and Payment Transparency, Meetings and Events, an HCP Engagement Center, companywide policy, financial contributions, alliances, crisis management and gatekeeping.  She represented AZ externally on committees such as PHRMA, EFPIA, NIH, FDA, IOM and the CMO roundtable.

For nine years prior to AZ, Jodie served as the Director, External Medical Communications with Pfizer.  In addition to overseeing Communications for the Specialty Care and Emerging Markets Business units, she led an External Collaborations Alliance focused on academic centers, publishing companies, societies and thought leaders.  As part of Pfizer’s Transparency team, she played a pivotal role in implementing the PhRMA/EFPIA Principles and integrating vendors and systems after the Wyeth merger.

Prior to Pfizer, Jodie was a Global Communications lead at Novartis and managed a Phase IV/IIR review board.  She served as the Director of Medical Education for Oridion Medical and as a Health Economist with the Israeli Center for Disease Control and Ministry of Health.  She has held additional roles in academia, advocacy and the White House.  Jodie holds a Master’s of Public Health with a dual degree in Health Economics and Epidemiology and a BSFS from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service.

His current focus for Novartis is how digital technologies can be leveraged to better measure Novartis product’s  real world effectiveness and value, and also to design more comprehensive disease management systems in partnership with digital health startups, payers and providers.  In addition to his book, The Future of Healthcare: Human and Machine Partnering for Better Outcomes, Dr. Fombu has authored multiple research papers and abstracts in renowned peer reviewed journals. As a medical futurist and 2017 winner of the prestigious New York City Health Business Leaders Boldest Digital Health Influencer Award, Dr Fombu is a champion and advocate forvalue based healthcare, personalized medicine, mhealth, nanotechnology, big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital medicine.
